New Beginnings

New Beginnings is a unique national program in Early Childhood, conducted in collaboration with three Government Ministries (Education, Health and Welfare), the JDC, and several foundations and led by Aliza Olmert. In the earliest stages of this major project, Keren Karev was asked to join and to develop pilot centers which would be models for the national program.

Working together with the UIA of Canada, the Jewish Funders Network, and the Russell Berrie Foundation, we have established centers in Tiberius, Sakhnin, Maalot, and South Tel Aviv which would serve the needs of all children from birth to 6 with a special focus upon those at risk. The new centers integrate existing agencies, and add educational and therapeutic services for children and parents not available in towns characterized by very low socio-economic situations. Each center will reach 300-350 children, and professional staff will work with parents and entire families where conditions are difficult. In 2008 we intend to establish two or three new centers.
