Canadian Museum for Human Rights

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is targeted to open in 2010 and will serve as a world-class centre to advance understanding and support for human rights in Canada and throughout the world. As announced in 2007 by Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the CMHR will be established and sustained as the first national museum in Canada located outside of the National Capital Region. It will be a true testament to the importance Canada, as a nation, places on human rights.

Located in Winnipeg, at the cross roads of Canada, this museum is envisioned to be the largest human rights centre in the world --a national and international destination – and a centre of learning and history where Canadians and people from other countries can engage in dialogue and commit to taking action to combat the forces of hate and oppression. The Museum will be focus on educating young people to become human rights leaders and advocates.
